biking trails

Riding your bike out in nature can be a rewarding and exciting experience. If you are getting bored of the same old routes you always ride, or you are ready to try something new, then you are in luck. There are several biking trails and paved multipurpose trails within driving distance of Dublin, OH.

Beginner Loop in Alum Creek State Park

Alum Creek State Park has several mountain bike trails, but if you’re new to riding on dirt, we recommend starting off on the beginner loop. The easiest way to access this trail is from the Lewis Center Road parking lot on the lake’s east side. You can also get to it from the beach parking lot via a 2-mile paved path that follows the southern shore of Alum Creek Lake. This route provides beautiful water views.

The Gnoomwood skills park is also accessed through the beginner loop, so if you are feeling confident, you can practice some of its features. This small skills park has berms, rollers, drops, and even some small jumps. But don’t let that intimidate you, this is the perfect place to practice these features before you ride them out on the trails.

Phase II in Alum Creek State Park

Once you’ve ridden the beginner loop a few times and are comfortable with most of the features in the Gnoomwood skills park, you’re ready to move on to Phase II. This is one of the most popular trails in central Ohio, and riders should be prepared for some technical features. This is a 5.5-mile loop with over 700 feet of climbing. There are several skinnies, bridges, and a few log-overs, although some of these features are optional.

Highbanks Multi-Use Trail

If you would rather ride on pavement than dirt, Highbanks Metro Park’s multi-use trail is a must-ride. This 2-mile out and back trail takes you through the beautiful and historic Highbanks Metro Park and through some woods and fields. The whole trail is paved and is open to hikers, joggers, bikes, and dogs. It also connects to the main road through the park, which completes the loop for people who don’t mind riding on the road.

You will need a capable vehicle in order to get your bike to these trails. The Ram 1500 TX is plenty capable, with a 6.2 liter, 8 cylinder engine and 4-wheel drive. This truck will get you just about anywhere you want to go, and it doesn’t sacrifice style or space to do so. To learn more or schedule a test drive, come by Twins Auto of Dublin today!
