Hiking is an experience the whole family can enjoy. Fresh air and experiencing the beauty of nature are just two of its bonuses. When you’re in Dublin, OH, we have numerous hiking trails available within easy driving distance. These are a few of our favorites.
Three Creeks
You enter this park at 860 Bixby Road, Groveport. The park is named for the confluence of Alum, Blacklick, and Big Walnut Creeks. It’s a 1,100-acre area where you can find over 100 species of birds, together with deer, mink, beaver, and coyote. There are nine trails here, of which seven are classified as easy difficulty. The two other two, Bluebell Trail and Confluence Trail, are classified as moderate.
We enjoy the Bluebell Trail, a 1-mile hike over dirt terrain that ends at a wonderful view of the confluence of the three creeks. Confluence Trail is also 1 mile long and takes you through canopies of cottonwoods, American elms, and giant sycamore trees.
Shale Hollow Park
When you want a quiet hike through beautiful surroundings, Shale Hollow is a great choice. It’s a 211-acre park with a creek flowing through it and shale cliff walls. The Great Horned Owl Trail is a 1.1-mile gravel trail winding up and down hills covered with red and white oaks on top of the shale cliffs, and loops through meadows that are being reforested.
The Outlook Trail is a 1-mile hike that begins at the base of the shale cliffs and rises steeply to the top as you pass through stands of trees. If you follow the trail onwards to the south, it circles through woodlands and provides amazing views of the Big Bend Creek ravine.
Alum Creek State Park
Fourteen miles northeast of us lies Alum Creek State Park at 3615 South Old State Road, Delaware. The park features 4,630 acres of fields and forests and fifteen trails for you to choose from. They vary in length and difficulty from the easy Out of Africa Trail of 2.8 miles to the moderate 6.7-mile Park Office and Hollenback Trail.
The Park Office and Hollenback Trail is a good choice for its views and the fact it’s dog-friendly. You and your canine family member can explore the trail together as it meanders alongside the river. It can be muddy at certain times, but the two of you are guaranteed healthy exercise in the fresh air.
Your 2022 Kia Sportage LX, with its 6-Speed Automatic Electronic with Overdrive / AWD and 2.4 L 4-cylinder engine, will handle rough roads and woodland trails as easily as it does the highway. If you want to know more about trails or are looking to upgrade, call us today at Twins Auto of Dublin.
